Hill
of Tarvet
Hill of Tarvet house was remodelled in 1906 by the
Scottish architect Sir Robert Lorimer around Mr F B Sharp’s
collection of French and Chippendale-style furniture, porcelain
and paintings. The kitchen premises offer a fascinating insight
into ‘life below stairs’. Lorimer also designed the gardens,
with formal lawns, yew hedging, flowering borders and a sunken

Abernethy
Round Tower
The Abernethy Round Tower was built in the early 9th
century. This 72ft/22m tall tower was built by the monks from
the nearby monastery and has served several purposes; as a place
of refuge, as a belfry and as a sepulchral. In 1072 Scottish
king Malcolm Canmore was here forced to kneel and pay homage
