Times can be booked a year in advance. Requests can be made through the St Andrews Links Trust. Certain hotels and guest houses have tee times which are available to guests. These are normally given to guests staying more than two nights.

There is a daily ballot for groups wishing to play. Put your name in the day before you wish to play. Names must be with the Links Trust prior to 2 o' clock. Old Course ballot results are posted at 4 o'clock for the following days play. PLAYING ON MONDAY? Names for Monday should be entered on Saturday.

Single players and those who did not make the ballot can wait at the Starters Box in an attempt to join 2 / 3 balls. Get down there as early as possible. At its busiest golfers will start to gather as early as 4am. At quieter times of the year there are spaces late in the day for anyone showing up.

Be aware that the Old Course is closed for major events, local and Club competitions etc. THE Old Course will close for days at a time outside of the Open Championship for events like the Links Trophy, Rotary event and in 2007 the Ladies Open Championship. If your dream is to play the Old Course, please ensure you are aware of closure dates before finalizing your travel plans.
